Pasadena Villa Outpatient – Norfolk offers a variety of additional services as part of our partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs including yoga therapy, and art therapy as well as support from our therapy dog, Baby Bear.

  • Yoga Therapy: Incorporating yoga into treatment integrates both mind and body, creating a more holistic healing process through the teaching of mindfulness and improving each client’s connectedness and awareness to their internal experience.
  • Art Therapy: Through our partnership with Eastern Virginia Medical School we provide art therapy that helps our clients explore their emotions and lived experiences, foster self-awareness, self-esteem and social skills, focus on growth and healing, and manage and recover from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses.
  • Therapy Dog: Our therapy dog, Baby Bear, is a welcome addition to the team. Baby Bear is certified through the American Society of Canine Trainers and is a Canine Good Citizen with The American Kennel Club.  Research shows that therapy dogs can have a significant positive impact on mental health. Interacting with animals releases an automatic relaxation response, promotes the release of serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin which can play a part in elevating moods, lowers anxiety, provides comfort, reduces loneliness, and can act as catalysts in the therapy process.

Levels of Care

At Pasadena Villa Outpatient – Norfolk, we offer five levels of care for mental health treatment: an adult partial hospitalization program (PHP), an adult intensive outpatient program (IOP), an adult day virtual IOP (V-IOP), and an adult evening V-IOP.

Our adult PHP, for ages 18 and older, includes intensive psychotherapeutic treatment and support in a less restrictive setting than inpatient care. Clients can participate in a structured therapeutic program during the day while living at home and enjoying their community in the evenings. The goal is to establish a foundation for long-term recovery support. Our PHP is appropriate for those who may have one or more of the following symptoms: withdrawal from normal activities; behavioral problems; depression; anxiety; suffering from pervasive, psychiatric disorders; at risk of being a danger to themselves; or at risk of being violent toward others.

Our IOP is designed to help individuals who are experiencing an increase in distressing symptoms and behaviors or aren’t progressing in traditional outpatient services. The extra treatment and support foster meaningful improvement and create a solid foundation for clients transitioning to community treatment. Evening Intensive Outpatient program (E-IOP) Provided at the Norfolk location our Adult Evening Program is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that incorporates the principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by teaching skills to help clients be more effective in their daily lives. This program is designed for those seeking additional mental health support while balancing professional, family, and or school obligations. This highly structured program meets in person three times a week in the evenings from 5:00 PM EST – 8:00 PM EST.
