Located in east Tennessee on the Tennessee River, Pasadena Villa Outpatient – Knoxville specializes in treating adults, 18 years and older, who have mood disorders, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, and co-occurring autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

At Knoxville, we utilize the most current evidence-based treatment modalities while also creating an individualized treatment plan for each client. We are committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive, and high-quality individualized psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care for adults who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness while maximizing social functioning in the real world.

What We Treat

At Pasadena Villa Outpatient – Knoxville, we specialize in treating complex mental health conditions. The multimodality approach involving group, individual, and family therapy along with psychiatric services allows our clinical team to effectively understand and address challenging behavioral issues. At our facility we treat:

Levels of Care

Our PHP includes intensive psychotherapeutic treatment and support in a less restrictive setting than inpatient care. Clients can participate in a structured therapeutic program during the day while living in the comfort of their own home. The goal is to establish a foundation for long-term recovery support. Our PHP is appropriate for clients who may have one or more of the following symptoms: withdrawal from normal activities; behavioral problems; depression; anxiety struggling with pervasive, psychiatric disorders; at risk of danger to themselves; or at risk of being violent toward others. In PHP, clients attend programming five days per week for six hours per day.

IOP is designed to help individuals who are experiencing an increase in distressing symptoms and behaviors or are not progressing in traditional outpatient services. The extra treatment and support foster meaningful improvement and create a solid foundation for clients transitioning to community treatment. In IOP, clients attend programming three to five days per week for three hours per day.

Our Program

At Pasadena Villa Outpatient – Knoxville, we provide customized care that’s designed to meet each client’s specific needs and unique goals. Specifically curated psychotherapy groups meet weekly to ensure they address each client’s needs. Treatment options include group-based
therapy with individual psychotherapy, family sessions, and medication management as indicated by the treatment plans.

Our licensed clinicians with certifications in evidence-based methods utilize a whole-person approach that includes the following therapies:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Experiential and Expressive Therapies
  • Movement Therapy

The treatment process begins with the primary therapist conducting a comprehensive assessment that, upon permission from each client, includes consultation with the client’s prescriber, psychotherapist, significant others, and other service providers. Our experienced psychiatrists oversee all treatment, conduct psychiatric evaluations, and provide careful medication management as needed. Our psychiatrists communicate with the community prescriber ensuring medication changes fit within their treatment plan. Additionally, we value and foster collaboration with community providers as we serve as an extension of each client’s treatment team. The two-way communication ensures clients receive seamless continuity of care as they transition into and out of our program.

Julia Wilson, MS, LMFT

Executive Director

Julia is an experienced clinician and leader with a notable history of working in acute hospitalization, private practice, and residential psychiatric settings. As a clinician, Julia has worked as an individual and couples therapist, as well as a family therapist.

Julia joined Pasadena Villa in 2016 and has remained dedicated to the treatment of clients with co-occurring diagnoses, complex presentations, and those with diagnoses of severe and persistent mental health illnesses. Throughout her work in residential care, Julia has demonstrated significant success building rapport with individuals who present with treatment-resistant psychosis while also incorporating psychoeducation for families that’s allowed for increased understanding and reunification. Julia is skilled in a variety of therapeutic interventions including DBT, CBT including TF-CBT, EMDR, LEAP, and Bowenian Family Therapy.

Prior to her role as Executive Director, Julia held the positions of Director of Outpatient Services as well as Program Director. As a leader, Julia has implemented programmatic changes that have impacted client care with positive outcomes as well as offered care-focused trainings that have led to increased staff productivity and satisfaction. Julia has a passion for offering client-centered care in all she does and strives to create an environment that promotes healing and respect. Julia prides herself on a personal dedication to constant individual growth and understanding and has spearheaded training in the residential and outpatient system that includes Safe Zone LGBTQ+ education training.
